The Effectiveness of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program in Relieving some Symptoms of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder among University Students: A case study

Abstract:
The aim of the current study was to diagnose the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder using psychometric and clinical diagnostic tools, and explaining the extent of agreement and difference between findings. It aimed also to prepare a dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) program, and identify its effectiveness in relieving some symptoms of the obsessive-compulsive disorder of a third-year female student at the Faculty of Education, Minia University. The researcher utilized the personal interview form, clinical analysis test (translated by El-Beheiry, 2016), Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), list of diagnostic criteria for obsessive-compulsive disorder in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: Fifth Edition (DSM-5) (translated by the researcher), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) program (Prepared by the researcher). The study adopted the clinical and quasi-experimental research designs to study the case. Findings of the study revealed the agreement of psychometric and clinical tools in diagnosing the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Findings also showed the effectiveness of the dialectical behavioral therapy in relieving the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder in the case, results revealed that the effectiveness of thetherapy program continued in the follow –up period . In light of these findings, some recommendations were drawn.
