Effectiveness of a training program based on the theory of successful intelligence in developing pivotal thinking skills among second stage of basic education students
Abstract:
The current study aimed to reveal the effectiveness of a training program based on the theory of successful intelligence in developing pivotal thinking skills among students of the second stage of basic education. The study was applied on a sample of (120) male and female students aged between (13-15) years. They were chosen by the simple random method and distributed into two groups. The experimental group N= (60) male and female students, and the control one N= (60) male and female students. The researcher prepared a scale of successful intelligence and a scale of pivotal thinking skills, in addition to the training program based on the theory of successful intelligence, that consisted of (28) training sessions. Each session (45 minutes) and was distributed on the dimensions of successful intelligence: analytical intelligence, practical intelligence, creative intelligence. To verify the study hypotheses, the researcher used the arithmetic means and standard deviations, and the (T) test to calculate the significance of the differences between the averages. Results showed that There are statistically significant differences in successful intelligence as a total degree and each of its dimensions (analytical intelligence, practical intelligence, creative intelligence) in favor of the experimental group, and there are statistically significant differences in pivotal thinking skills as a total degree and each of its dimensions (concentration skill, collecting information skill , remembering skill, integration skill, evaluation skill) for the experimental group. The study presented a set of recommendations, including urging officials and decision-makers in education to adopt the theory of successful intelligence in projects related to the development of the educational process because of its application in long periods of time of effectiveness in transferring knowledge to life applications, holding training workshops for teachers to support the development of successful intelligence among students in different educational levels because it contributes to improve academic performance and increasing their classroom participation, including basic and sub-skills for pivotal thinking in all subjects of different educational levels.
Key words: successful intelligence, pivotal thinking skills, students of the second stage of basic education.
